A young Stenhousemuir 2nd XI side gave a good account of themselves in a defeat to Linlithgow’s 2s in Saturday’s friendly at the Tryst.
Chris “Scoony” Dyer bowled accurately with late movement and took five wickets as Linlithgow fell from 45-0 to 55-7, before they rallied slightly and ended up 91 all out. Olly Townsend picked up his first senior wicket, a fair reward for some terrific bowling from the junior which drew praise from supporters and opposition players alike.
The top order struggled early on in reply for Stenhousemuir, with the only partnership of note early on coming from two Linlithgow players who had generously offered to make up numbers, and both contributed well. However, when they fell it was up to Scoony once again to manage the tail and bat with the junior players. Alongside Olly (who faced 13 balls), and Andrew Quinn (scored 2 not out from 22 balls in first senior game), Scoony frustrated the Linlithgow bowlers, stretching the match on for another twelve overs and making them work for their victory. Scoony eventually got out for a hard fought 9, leaving Stenhousemuir 68 all out.
Much to work on with the bat for some of the senior players, but a terrific bowling performance and some real fight shown with the bat at the end. Youngsters Olly and Andrew gave a good account of themselves and showed the talent currently in the junior system at the club.
Player of the Match was Scoony, for his well-deserved five wickets and fight with the bat.
