In round 7 of "meet the players" we talk to young wicket keeper/batsmen Lucas Laing.

1. How did you get involved with cricket?
I was first introduced to cricket at an Easter camp run by the club and it was from then that I started taking part in the sport.

2. You’ve played all the way through the age groups, 2nd 11 to the 1st 11. What do you enjoy about playing cricket?
There are lots of things I enjoy about cricket. The banter, the teams and the teas are just a few things to mention. But the thing I love most about cricket is that it’s a game that can be played by everyone at any ability level.

3. Tell us a memorable/funny story you have about playing cricket?
My most memorable game of cricket would have to be a game that I played for the u15s. Where myself and former player Kia Reid (both being wicket keepers) bowled out the opposing team with them requiring 2 runs to win.

4. What part of your game have you been working on over the winter?
Over the winter I have been focusing on my batting. This was due to roughly a 5 week dry spell where I didn’t score a run. So when training returns again I will be focusing on my batting even more.

5. Now you’ve completed your first year at university, how did you find it?
It was totally worth it. All the hard work and sacrifice that I have made over the last year has helped me pass first year and I am now looking forward to next year.

6. You’re known to be a sociable character. Do you enjoy the dressing room
banter/camaraderie?

100% I feel that it’s an essential part of the game. As a team of you don’t gel as a unit then you won’t often win games.

7. Quick fire questions

Test or T20? Test
Beer or cider? Cider (I dont like beer)
Best batsmen Adam Gilchrist
Best bowler Shane Warne
Favourite teas West of Scotland on a Sunday
