In round 6 of "meet the players" we get to know a little bit more about opening bowler Nick Lister.

1. You’re not originally a local boy but have been here many years now, what brought you to stenhousemuir?
Born in London, met my wife at uni and we moved up here to be closer to her family, been here about 10 years now.

2. What’s the difference in club cricket up here from what you were used to growing up with?
Depth is much bigger down there, in London we would field 5 teams on a Saturday and 2 on a Sunday, plus U9s through to U15s for youngsters. Just down to the amount of interest in the game.

3. Did you have to adapt you’re game from what you were used too?
In Scotland I need to bowl fuller - my natural length is too short and the ball sits up. But by pitching up I now get more wickets caught behind or bowled.

4. Do you still enjoy it now as much as you did when you first started playing?
Definitely - I was really looking forward to this season before the coronavirus situation came along. I've not played much over the last few years due to illness so I was really keen to get back out there

5. What is your best memory to date playing for stenhousemuir?
Winning the first division in 2015 was special, as was playing in the prem - I'll never forget dismissing former Scotland international Majid Haq. Sent his off stump for a walk - the best feeling for any bowler. Also bowling 15 overs straight and taking 5 wickets against a strong Poloc team to defend about 130 at the Tryst

6. What do you do with yourself when not playing cricket?
At the moment it's mostly keeping my two sons busy - lockdown has been a struggle for them but we're trying to keep busy. I enjoy reading and have been learning Italian - it's my favourite country to visit

7. You have cleaned up during the lockdown on the players quiz nights. How do you remember so much?
Haha I'm not really sure - I'm just lucky that things stick in my mind when I've read them. I try to keep interested in lots of different subjects as well. But my short term memory is terrible - I couldn't tell you what I had for dinner last week

Quick fire questions

Test or T20? Tests - I do enjoy T20 but only in small doses
Best batsmen? Marcus Trescothick
Best bowler? Curtly Ambrose
Favourite away ground? I always enjoyed bowling at Ferguslie, the slope on their square was perfect for my angle.
Beer or cider? I'm not a big drinker, but you can't beat a cold beer at the Tryst after a good win.
