Wow what a great weekend at Stenhousemuir Cricket Club
First XI
Nicky Rogers won the toss and batted on a good wicket. He must have been a bit troubled at 34 for 2, but when Zander Smith joined Yaseen Valli they both batted with certainty and precision giving no chance to the strong Ferguslie side. The history started when both Zander (on strike) and Yaseen (non striker) were both on 99 and the partnership 199. Zander took a single to get to 100 taking the partnership to 200 then to put the icing on the cake, the next ball Yaseen took a single to get his ton. The partnership realised 209 runs and the other batters took the score to 300. Many records were shattered on Saturday. The Ferguslie reply never seemed to threaten with wickets falling regularly with the wickets spread through most of the bowlers.
Women and Girls
*Stenhousemuir Women and Girls Celebrate First Hardball Cricket Match*
Stenhousemuir Women and Girls Cricket Team played their first-ever competitive hardball match in the Cricket Scotland Challenger League on Sunday, facing a combined West of Scotland/Clydesdale team at The Tryst. This was a major milestone for the side, who began training just 16 months ago.
The final score was 115/1 to 85/7 in favour of the visiting team. However, Stenhousemuir were awarded the league points, as the opposition could not field a full side and borrowed three players from Stenhousemuir to complete their team.
Team captain Divya Manickavelu retired after reaching the maximum allowed 30 runs. There were strong contributions from across the squad with Dawn Moffat, Roseann Phillips, Kari Prentice, Sarah Lister, Yvonne Weir, Gillian Horn, and Frances Burke all playing key roles with bat, ball, and in the field. Tricia Kerr also celebrated her first wicket in hardball cricket. Michelle Ferguson, Stacey Sneddon and Julie Niven all played for the away team.
Team Manager Yvonne Weir said, “This match provided invaluable experience for the growing squad, who are now preparing for their next league fixture against Prestwick this Sunday. We are proud of the progress the team has made and look forward to building on this momentum.
New players are always welcome to join the Stenhousemuir Women and Girls Cricket Team. Training sessions are held at The Tryst every Monday at 6:30 p.m. Whether you’re new to the game or looking to improve your skills, come along and be part of the team!"
Second XI
Adam Hunter lost his first toss as captain but shrewd management of his bowling attack allowed Stenhousemuir to restrict Ferguslie to 141 all out with Will Sneddon, Oli Townsend and Jacqauri Greenwood each bagging 2 wickets and Farhan Haider bagging 4 for 20. Stenhousemuir successfully chased 141 set by the home team in just over 32 overs with Olly Townsend top scoring with 26, as well as Adam Hunter and William Sneddon also scoring 24 each chipping into a successful run chase.
Second 11 are at home to Numholm (Dumfries) this Saturday looking to keep momentum into the following game weeks from a great weekend of wins for all Stenhousemuir teams.
